How is a day scored?

Each habit a child does earns the reward, and each habit missed takes off the penalty. A day never goes below zero, and the month's total is the sum of its days. The app starts with a reward of 50 and a penalty of 75 of your currency's smallest unit, such as 50p and 75p, so with six habits the best day is £3.00. You can change both amounts in Settings, for this month or next. Earlier months keep the amounts they had.

Which currency does it use?

Your iPhone's region, from Settings → General → Language & Region. Both parents' phones should use the same region when sharing.

Changing children and habits

Open the Settings tab and unlock with Face ID or your passcode. You can rename children, add more, and add, rename or turn off habits. Turning a habit off keeps its history.

A habit for one child only

In Settings → Habits, tap the habit. Under For, untick the children it isn't for, then tap Save. It disappears from their Today screen and month grid, and each child's perfect days count only their own habits. Their earlier ticks stay. A child added later gets the habits that have every child ticked.

Extra tasks

For a one-off job, like washing the car, scroll down on the Today screen and tap Add extra task. Enter the task, pick a reward and choose which children it's for. It's set for the day on screen only. Tap the task once it's done: its reward is added to that day, on top of the habits, even on a day when the habits came to nothing. If it isn't done, nothing is taken off. Touch and hold a task to change or remove it. Setting, changing or removing a task needs Face ID or your passcode.

Sharing with the other parent

  1. Both parents install the app and are signed into iCloud.
  2. On your phone: Settings → Share with the other parent.
  3. Tap Add Participant, enter the Apple ID email the other parent uses for iCloud, and send the link.
  4. On their phone: open the link, then tap Join. Their starting data is replaced with yours.

Changes usually arrive within seconds. To check straight away, pull down on any tab.

The link says "Item Unavailable": the other parent wasn't added in step 3, or their phone uses a different Apple ID for iCloud. Tap Invite or manage and add the right email.

Nothing happens when they open the link: on their phone, check Settings → [their name] → iCloud, and make sure Habit Rewards is allowed to use iCloud.

Backups

Settings → Back up to Files saves everything to a file. Restore from a backup replaces what's on the phone with that file. Restoring is turned off while family sharing is on, because it would overwrite the other parent's phone too.
